LMH and CCHD COVID vaccine distribution

The Cass County Health Department (CCHD) is expecting their first shipment of Moderna COVID-19 vaccine this week and plans to begin distribution on Monday, January 11, 2021. Distribution will take place at the COVID-19 Center of the CCHD, located at 1616 Smith Street in Logansport. At this time, there will be no distribution at the Cass County Health Department High Street Location.

Logansport Memorial Hospital has been distributing COVID-19 vaccines on-site at the hospital since December of 2020, when the Indiana Department of Health first authorized shipments of vaccines to be distributed and administered to the frontline healthcare workers, as identified in the tiers of their statewide vaccination plan. In working together with the Cass County Health Department, Logansport Memorial Hospital will be shifting its vaccination efforts to centralize the distribution of COVID-19 vaccines at the CCHD COVID Center on Smith Street, also beginning on Monday, January 11, 2021.

At this time, those who are eligible to pre-register for the vaccine are healthcare workers and first responders (fire, law enforcement, emergency medical services, reservists, and volunteers) who have in-person contact with the public. Coroners and funeral directors who have contact with infectious material, as well as licensed and unlicensed healthcare workers who have in-person contact with patients or infectious material in any healthcare setting are also included among this group, as identified by the Indiana State Department of Health.

Eligible individuals in this tier should receive an invitation and registration link from their employer, professional association, or the State of Indiana (Indiana Department of Health Professional Licensing Agency, Family & Social Services Administration, Department of Homeland Security, or another state agency). If you meet one of these qualifications please be patient, make sure your email is updated with Indiana Professional Licensing Agency, and continue to check your email and SPAM. If you are eligible and haven’t received an invitation, please ask your employer.

Additionally, COVID-19 vaccines will now be made available for individuals ages 80 and older, per the Indiana Department of Health. Individuals in this age group can sign up for their vaccine by going online to www.ourshot.in.gov and following the steps to register. If you do not have internet access, or if you need assistance to get signed up, you may call for additional help:

  • The CCHD COVID-19 Center will be available to help sign you up over the phone: (574) 355-8754
  • Leave a voicemail on the LMH COVID-19 hotline at (574) 753-4193 with your name, date of birth, and contact information to be reached. Voicemails will be checked Monday-Friday at 8 am,12 noon, and 2 pm for follow-up and scheduling.

Only individuals ages 80 and older who have a scheduled appointment will be able to receive a vaccine. At this time, walk-ins are not accepted due to the limited supply of vaccine.

The Cass County Health Department will be following the Indiana Department of Health vaccine plan, which identifies and outlines the specific groups of people who are eligible to receive the vaccines that we have available. As more vaccines become available, and as more age groups are granted access by the Indiana Department of Health, the CCHD and Logansport Memorial Hospital will be issuing continued communications and updating the vaccine hotline to keep our community informed using a variety of channels – including but not limited to local media partnerships, social media, and various forms of advertisements.

Logansport Memorial Hospital is also working with the Cass County Health Department to establish a COVID-19 vaccine clinic, which will be held in the coming weeks as more vaccines are distributed. This larger effort will attempt to provide increased access for the elderly individuals in our community to be able to receive their vaccine easily and efficiently, as more age groups are released by the Indiana Department of Health for vaccination. More information will be shared in the next couple of weeks on that clinic, as details are confirmed.

You can also follow along for progress on vaccination efforts and the latest information on who will be eligible to receive the vaccine at www.coronavirus.in.gov/vaccine. Currently, there is not a waiting list for the vaccine. The Cass County Health Department will be utilizing an online scheduling tool provided by the Indiana Department of Health to streamline the process. Those without internet access can be assisted by the Cass County Health Department COVID Center Staff.

If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact the Cass County Health Department COVID-19 Center at (574) 355-8754.

Even as vaccination efforts increase and continue, it does not mean that we can pull back from the infection prevention practices of wearing a mask, washing our hands, and practicing social distancing. These practices are more important than ever to continue protecting those who have not yet been vaccinated, and to help slow the spread of COVID-19 in the community. Thank you in advance for your help in keeping yourself and others safe, as well as for your continued patience with the distribution of vaccines.
