His focus in the medical field

Dr. Akande appreciates the variety in his practice and works to find the best solution for each patient's health needs and goals. When he doesn't know the answer right away, he enjoys the opportunity to research and properly diagnose your symptoms to find a treatment plan that is best suited for you. Dr. Akande is excited and proud to see patients reach and conquer their health goals. He believes that at the end of the day, taking charge of your own health is one of the best things you can do for yourself.

"I celebrate all victories with my patients because taking charge of their own health is what matters at the end of the day."

One of Dr. Akande's passions is lifelong learning. He always considers himself a student in that respect, and will never stop learning new and advanced ways to improve his health care methods as your provider.

Dr. Akande's trifecta

While Dr. Akande sees and treats many different health issues as a family medicine provider, he takes a special interest in his trifecta: diabetes, high blood pressure, and weight management.

His interest in diabetes stems from what he likes to call his "nerdy" side.

"Diabetes is fun to treat. I love the math, science, and overall process behind figuring insulin calculations. Maybe that's my nerd side coming out, but it's very satisfying to treat."

Dr. Akande's interest in his trifecta also comes from the connection these conditions have with food. These conditions are largely due to the kinds of food available, and the lack of nutritional value. He explains that these three issues can be managed with a change in diet, learning what is considered "good food", and how to incorporate these dietary changes into daily life.

Why medicine?

One of Dr. Akande's favorite things about medicine is the pathology. When he says he considers himself a lifelong student, he means it. He enjoys learning about the conditions that people have, and how he can help treat it. Even when the diagnosis is hard, with symptoms that can be undetectable, he faces that challenge by using his skills and knowledge to uncover what the underlying issue may be. If there is anything he wants his patients to know, it's that he is here to help figure out how to get you back to your best self.

"I would say, whether it's medical or non-medical, come to me with your problems. We are all human. Even if it's something that I don't know, it gives me the opportunity to learn how to help."

Fun facts; a Q+A with Dr. Akande

Tell us about yourself

I was born in South Bend and raised in Evansville. I've been with my significant other for seven years. We have one son and a guinea pig named Pluto.

What do you like to be involved in, outside of work?

Outside of work, I enjoy working out and staying fit. I'm also a musician. I have been playing the cello for as long as I can remember. And I definitely love to travel. I think getting to experience something out of the norm really helps me to stop and appreciate the life that I have. I also really enjoy cooking and trying out different recipes.

What interested you in our community?

I was interested in this community when I saw how well everyone worked together for the good of the community and to help improve everyone's health. I think it's rare to find a group so singularly focused.

What is your favorite food?

If I could have a last meal it be oatmeal with brown sugar and snook. Snook is a fish that can't be bought or sold in the U.S. You have to catch it if you want to eat it, but it cooks so perfectly.

What is your favorite book?

My favorite book of all time is A Wrinkle in Time. The movie is a sore subject for me though. I will say that Game of Thrones has inspired me to get into audio books to see how they differ from the show.

What song best describes your personality?

Let Go by Frou-Frou.
