Logansport Memorial Hospital welcomes First Baby of 2015

Logansport's first baby of 2015 was born about 10 hours into the new year and was welcomed by a first-time mother and more than 30 gifts from local donors.

Benjamin was born at 10:08 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 1 to parents Alisha Griffin and Benjamin Juan Pascual. All 6 pounds, 10 ounces and 20 inches of him was delivered by Dr. Timothy Hall at Logansport Memorial Hospital.

He is Griffin's first child. She said she's a little too overwhelmed to determine what she's looking forward to the most about being a mother as she prepares for all of the responsibilities.

The mother and son continued bonding with one another at the hospital Friday, Jan 2.
"I like babies," Griffin said, looking down at Benjamin fondly in his "New Year's Baby 2015" onesie as she held him on her hospital bed. "They're so cute." The Michigan City native said she is looking forward to raising her son in Logansport. "There's no trouble out here really," she said.

It's a community the hospital also commends for its contributions to the families of the first baby born at the hospital every year.

Angie Soupley, a registered nurse on Logansport Memorial Hospital's obstetrics unit, said community involvement increased for the effort in 2015 than in past years. "We're really, really thrilled about that," she said.

There were more than 30 donations, including gifts like a wagon, gift certificates, books, blankets, a bathtub, a carrier, stuffed animals and diapers.

"We love our community and we want community involvement," Soupley said. "We want these people to know we genuinely love and care about their babies and the community does as well."

Griffin is grateful for all the gifts, many of which were stacked up in a corner of her hospital room. "Like, wow," was all she could say.
