February is nationally recognized as “Advance Directives Month” and Logansport Memorial Hospital has different options that might work for you. To raise awareness of those options, an event will be held for the completion of living wills, one of the advance directives available at Logansport Memorial Hospital.
On Thursday, February 21, the Logansport Memorial Hospital Case Management team will be in the hospital lobby from 1-4 pm, available to help anyone complete a living will that wants to do so. Privacy is crucial for an important decision like this, and individual privacy will be maintained at this event. Completion of a living will can be done for anyone who visits that day in a private waiting room.
Advance directives, like Living Wills, are important because they are necessary preparation for healthcare planning. “Individuals need to discuss with their physician and family members about their healthcare decisions and put them in writing in a Living Will,” explains Michele Long, Case Management Director. “When the patient is not able to speak for his or herself, the Living Will serves as an instrument or plan for how the individual wishes to have healthcare administered. That’s what having a living will does for someone. It lists the written instructions for that individual based on how they want to receive care in the event of an emergency.”
With advance directives, you remain in control of your healthcare decisions. Advance directives help individuals finalize a plan for treatment and care and continue to manage healthcare decisions, when they cannot speak for themselves.
