October will soon be upon us, and its theme of breast cancer awareness is promoted throughout the community with the annual River Bluff Run and Fun Walk. This event will take place on Saturday, October 13 with registration beginning at 7:30 am and lasting until 8:30 am. The run will start at 9 am and the walk will start at 10 am.
Pre-registration is $20.00 and those who pre-register will receive a free t-shirt. Race day registration is $30.00 and those who register that day will receive a t-shirt while supplies last. To register, individuals and teams may simply call the Foundation at 574.753.1595 or use the website for registrations at www.logansportmemorial.org.
But this year, promoting breast cancer awareness was also done a little differently here at the hospital. Staff joined in from all departments and areas, both clinical and administrative, and “rocked out” to a Pink Glove Dance, available for public viewing on the hospital website and hospital YouTube channel. “We wanted to do something that we had not done before,” explains Vicki Byrd, Vice-President of Planning and Development for Logansport Memorial Hospital.
“Our staff was so excited to be a part of it, and we’re really proud that everyone could come together in support of such an important cause. We know that breast cancer touches millions of women each year, and several of them are right here in our own community. They need to know they are supported in their fight by their community, and as part of the community, it’s important that we show our support too,” she says.
But that is not the only way that LMHF contributes to national efforts. “We have tried to bring that level of awareness down to our community and make an impact on the women who are affected or could be affected locally,” explains Vicki. “The Foundation has established a Breast Screening Fund, and the proceeds from our River Bluff Run and Fun Walk are utilized through it. The fund provides mammograms for uninsured Cass County women so that they also can receive the protection of early detection,” she says.
